This Saturday, we need you to come to Washington, D.C. and help completely surround the White House on Trump’s 100th day.
Trump is planning a big rally in Harrisburg, PA to try and rescue his plummeting poll numbers. But if we pull this action off, we can take over the media narrative, and show that the American people are united in our opposition to this dangerous and destructive Presidency.
The occasion is the Peoples Climate March, a mobilization for climate, jobs and justice that has brought together over 900 organizations, from the social justice organizations, to major labor unions, to the nation’s largest environmental groups.
Tens of thousands of people have already RSVP’d to come to Washington, but to completely surround the White House, it’s going to take all of us.
Here’s the plan:
We’re going to start the march at the Capitol, lining up in contingents that represent the different parts of our intersectional movement. Indigenous and frontline communities will lead the march as “Protectors of Justice.” Following them will be Creators of Sanctuary, Builders of Democracy, etc. all the way to the final and largest contingent, “Many Struggles, One Home,” that will pull in everyone who may not identify with a particular subsection, but want to be part of this big and powerful movement.
The mobilization will then head up Pennsylvania Avenue towards the White House. When we get to 15th Street, the march will split and we’ll head in two directions, one group taking the north side of the property on Pennsylvania, another marching along the south side on Constitution. With enough people, we’ll be able to surround the entire property, including the Ellipse.
In one way, our circle around the White House will be a show of opposition, an effort to contain the historic damage being caused by this administration. In another, it will be a show of unity, a chance for all of us, from different movements, different issue groups, to join hands together, hold the pain of the last 100 days, and recommit ourselves to the fight ahead.
Once we’re in formation, we’re going to show the heartbeat of this resistance. It will start with just patting our hands our chests, but as the beat travels throughout the crowd, the effect will be extraordinary. Many hearts, beating together as one. A beat that has built through these 100 days, from the Women’s March, to the rallies against the Muslim Ban, to Tax Day, to the Science March. A beat that will continue onwards through the People’s Climate March to May Day and beyond. A beat that will only grow stronger.
After surrounding the White House, we’ll travel down to the Washington Monument where there will be a closing rally and a chance to come together in “Circles of Resistance” to share stories and strategies for the road ahead.
It’s going to be a powerful day — and if we can pull it off at scale, it’s a chance to seize the narrative at a critical point in Trump’s flailing presidency. Trump wants to pretend that this resistance movement is small, disorganized, divided. We’re to show that we are the majority; that our causes are coming together; that our hearts beat as one.
As I write this, we’ve got just 6 days to pull this off and we need your help:
- If you’re not already planning to come to D.C., come: you can get all the info on the peoplesclimate.org website.
- If you can’t make it to the Capitol, join one of the hundreds of sister marches being planned all across the country.
- And please help spread the word. Post on Facebook, get on Twitter, start a Reddit thread, whatever you medium, spread the message.
See you in the streets.
