So the Golfer in Chief (GiC) said he will rebuild a "depleted" military after taking the oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts during a a 16-minute address. Okay ‘nuff said. (that was my setup).
Story time kids, I was a young college man once in the 1980’s and I was dating a young college woman back then (long story short we married and still are). And she decided to take up on a military recruiter on campus. But in those days if you wanted to join the military there were requirements. The one I personally remember was a high school degree and a GED was not acceptable! As I recall the reason a GED was not good enough was that they the military policy was that if you didn’t have what it took to stick it out and graduate from high school you didn’t have what it took to join.
Anyway back to my wife (then girlfriend) had to take a multiple choice test at the recruiters and she scored perfectly on about a hundred question test. The recruiter had a physical key which he held over the page and he was in such disbelief he doubled checked the alignment of his key sure she hadn’t done so well and thinking he had held the key out of alignment. Obviously this had never happened before judging from his behavior. Anyway she had no interest in enlisting she just liked taking a test and showing off. But the military didn’t know and the number of calls and letters and even once they almost tracked her down at home (and spoke to her mother).
And finally back then, if you had a criminal record of any sort you were disqualified.
Let me ask you what has depleted the military more than republicans changes in those policies?
Myself I am not qualified to answer the question as I come from a long line of draft dodgers dating back to my grandfathers parents who fled Russia in 1800’s for America to save him from the draft up until my oldest brother who used college deferments to avoid the Vietnam draft.
Myself I was either too young or there was no draft. How ever in 1980 the lying sack of crap Ronald Ray-Gun made me register for the draft despite making it a campaign promise that he would undo Jimmy Carter’s draft registration which he had implemented as a gesture to counter the Soviets invasion of Afghanistan.
History is getting old real fast.
