After the Daily Beast exposed New Hampshire state Rep. Robert Fisher’s (R) sordid Internet history full of misogyny and rape denialism, the calls for his resignation quickly followed. Sadly—yet unsurprisingly—the “men’s rights” activist refuses to step down. The Boston Globe reports:
On Wednesday, he rejected calls to resign, blamed fake news, and held himself out as a symbol of the downtrodden man.
“Here’s my message to the public: I am not disappearing,” Fisher said in a statement circulated to reporters. “I will continue to stand strong for men’s rights and the rights of all.”
If fake news has anything to do with his scandal, it’s that he believes dangerous myths like all rape accusations are false or that men are oppressed due to their gender in our patriarchal society (I mean, he’s in politics—the sexism in that arena is nearly impossible to miss).
