I hope I don’t covfefe in this post. The origins of words and phrases have always interested me. Where do they come from? How do they get started? I have some audiobooks of The Great Courses (highly recommended) and one of them is The Story of Human Language. Trumps’ “covfefe “ tweet is an example of how new words get added to a language. I think this new word might just catch on. Honesty, it looks like it was just a typo, although a very unusual one. If we assume that he was trying to type the word “coverage” then he was trying to type “erage” and it came out “fefe”. On a keyboard the letters E,R,A,G,E are in close proximity to each other on the left side. Now we all make typos, I have seen them in front pager posts. I proofread twice before I post because I hate them. They make me look stupid. We all like to act like we know what we’re talking about and typos retract from that image. Now you mean to tell me that Trump can’t even proofread a tweet? But instead of just admitting that he fucked up, he doubles down with this tweet: “ Who can figure out the true meaning of "covfefe" ??? Enjoy!’ Challenge accepted. It’s a band spankin’ new word so we get to define what it means. Its’ meaning will work itself out if people start using it. How should we pronounce it? Let’s add this new word to the Trump legacy. Excuse me, I have to go take a covfefe.
