Trump announced today there are no tapes of James Comey’s conversations with the President. Are we shocked? NO. Is it newsworthy? Hell, yes (in a normal presidency).
Is it brilliant timing? Yes. Yes, it is.
Today is the first official crap-storm in the media about the Senate version of Trumpcare. The Trump tapes announcement will divide the media’s attention drastically and the media will bang forward with whatever of the two stories gets more attention from readers, tweeters, etc.
Don’t give Trump and the GOP the satisfaction of losing focus on the more important topic. The story of Trump and the tapes is almost anti-climatic. Everyone knew that he either didn’t have the tapes or, if he did, they likely would undercut his side of the story and he would therefore destroy / obscure / deny them. This was always coming.
What has the potential to impact our lives for generations is Trumpcare’s possible passage.
Don’t take your foot off the gas on the Trumpcare story. Don’t spend inordinate time gloating over Trump’s admission that he has no tapes of Comey. It is a smokescreen intended to deflect attention on both stories with a media whirlwind too large for any one person to focus correctly on either of the stories.
If someone wants to talk Trump tapes today, kindly bring them back to Trumpcare. That’s the real action here.
