House Republicans are scuttling around trying to figure out how their tax reform bill can be a huge tax cut for the wealthiest people and corporations while still meeting their twisted standards for fiscal responsibility. And the far-far-far-right Freedom Caucus thinks they’ve figured it out! Just cut food stamps and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Big business totally needs that tax cut more than struggling families need food.
Meadows said adding in changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps, and TANF would provide another $400 billion over 10 years, Meadows said.
Such additions and subtractions are aimed at a Freedom Caucus package that includes a corporate tax rate of 20 percent and an equal or just slightly higher rate on unincorporated businesses known as pass-throughs, Meadows said.
“Changes” to SNAP and TANF that would “provide” $400 billion over 10 years. Note to Politico’s Aaron Lorenzo: Go ahead. Call them cuts. Republicans have been targeting these programs forever because they hate poor people and now they think they can kill two birds—poor people eating and corporations paying taxes—with one stone.
