NBA Superstar Kevin Durant of the World Championship Golden State Warriors said today he will not make the customary visit by the NBA champions to the White House.
"Nah, I won't do that," the 2017 NBA Finals MVP told ESPN's Chris Haynes on Thursday. "I don't respect who's in office right now.
And he hinted that the rest of his teammates may boycott the Trump White House as well.
"I don't agree with what he agrees with, so my voice is going to be heard by not doing that. That's just me personally, but if I know my guys well enough, they'll all agree with me."
According to NBCS Bay Area’s Monte Poole, Durant’s teammates Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston have already gone on record “that they would not be willing to make the visit.”
No official invitation has been extended. Warriors coach Steve Kerr who, has been vocally critical of President Donald Trump, has asked his players to consider visiting “out of respect for the office itself,” but said “ultimately it would be their decision … because it’s about them.”
Durant spoke while visiting his hometown of Seat Pleasant, Md:
“I definitely want to be the voice of where I come from and people who have come from my neighborhood and deal with oppression.”
The Warriors visited the Obama White House as 2015 NBA champions.
