From the Folks at the German Marshall Fund’s Alliance for Securing Democracy comes the Hamilton 68 dashboard. A quick, detailed and almost real time reference to what is trending in the Russian Propaganda and allied networks. How to tell if a story line is being pushed by the Kremlin, it’s here. This is a tool that every Kossak should put in their primary bookmark list, it looks like it is a great tool for sifting the propaganda from the story.
Why Hamilton 68? From their blog:
In the Federalist Papers No. 68, Alexander Hamilton wrote of protecting America’s electoral process from foreign meddling. Today, we face foreign interference of a type Hamilton could scarcely have imagined.
The dashboard works by finding the keywords in the Russian disinformation sites and tracking them, their propagation over the networks controlled by Putin and dissemination into trending topics on Facebook and Twitter.
I stumbled on this while watching Morning Joe. It was a very short segment with the GMF people announcing the project. It woke me up. It’s important to this community. It puts us a step ahead in the debate. Hamilton 68 shows us what subjects the propaganda (memes?) are pushing. (As of this writing, it seems that the hashtag ‘herpeshillary’ is being pushed (top trending). What it means? I have no idea, but we are going to hear about it in some context, soon. Also, why is Morgan Freeman catching such retweets (4:1 ratio) suddenly? )
Check it out, tell your friends. Personally, I am tired of having to ‘respond’ to this propaganda in discussions instead of being able to call it out as such at the onset. Time will tell, but this does look like an incredibly useful intelligence tool for us.
