Despite the GOP’s desperate attempts to pin the looming federal government shutdown on Democrats—who, you know, control neither the House, nor Senate, nor White House—and a reflexive tendency among traditional media outlets to blame #bothsides, Americans aren’t having any of this nonsense. A new poll from ABC News makes this as plain as the combover on Trump’s noggin:
Q: As you may know, the federal government might have to partially shut down later this week if Trump and Republicans in Congress and Democrats in Congress cannot agree on laws about immigration and border security. Who do you think is mainly responsible for this situation—Trump and Republicans in Congress or the Democrats in Congress?
A:
- Trump and Republicans: 48
- Democrats in Congress: 28
- Both: 18
Why, it’s almost as though Americans are actually savvy enough to understand that when one party is in charge of the entire government, they’re the ones responsible when the government shuts down! Republicans are happy to push the country over the brink because, as ever, they’re so deeply ensconced in their hermetically sealed universe that any news they don’t like is merely “fake.” Well, they’re about to get a dose of harsh reality, in very short order.
