After consulting with legal counsel, the Republican-led Pennsylvania State Legislature has decided that having their hands on map drawing was better than the alternatives. They have started to work on new, court-ordered US House maps that the state's Supreme Court says must not be gerrymandered.
They have supposedly met with Governor Tom Wolf, though they do not appear to be working in collaboration with Democrats. Also, it sounds like they didn't get the court's message. They imply that they'll be minimizing changes in boundaries and avoiding pitting incumbents against one another. At the same time, they do not believe they should have to cede seats because of this order.
The deadline to have maps on the governor's desk is this Friday, the 9th.
