UPDATE: Person A is a Ukrainian and not Manafort.
So a whole bunch of new speculation, who is person A and why keep them secret?
Here’s a link to the indictment:
This guy was talking to a person A, lied about it, but he recorded the call and the indictment doesn’t say he deleted the call, so there might be tapes! If this guy had deleted the tapes, like he deleted the emails, how would Mueller even know there were tapes? Maybe the plea deal is all about Zwaan giving up tapes for not being charged with something like money laundering. If this guy recorded his conversations, he must have known this wasn’t going to end well, and you have to wonder how many other conversations he recorded?
UPDATE: VOX has an article about this issue. Of course everyone wants to know who person A is, and the author speculates like most people that person A is Manafort. But there’s something strange about the timeline of events.
Nov. 2017 Zwaan lies to the FBI about emails and conversations he had with person A in Sept. 2016.
In July 2017 the FBI, in a very well publicized raid, grabs computers and thousands of documents in a dawn raid from Manafort.
Why in the world would Zwaan lie about emails with Manafort, when he must have surely known that the FBI had those emails? Is he really that stupid? What was in those emails that was so damning that he would lie to the FBI when he had to have known there was a very good chance the FBI already possessed the emails? I think this may be a reason to suspect that person A is not Manafort.
