According to
CNN, Republican representatives in
Georgia are threatening to withdraw a tax break on jet fuel if Delta doesn't reverse its decision to withdraw as a backer of the NRA:
The state's Republicans — including a major candidate for governor— are threatening to kill part of a bill that would eliminate a state tax on jet fuel. If it passes, the provision is expected to save the Atlanta-based airline tens of millions of dollars.
...
Hufstetler told CNN on Monday that if the airline does not reverse its stance on the NRA soon, he and others will push for the tax break to be stripped from the bill. The bill still needs to pass the Senate before it can be signed into law.
This is the same Republican governance that decided that tax breaks on jet fuel was good for Georgia and all of their people:
Georgia's House of Representatives voted in favor of the legislation last week. It also won over Republican Governor Nathan Deal, who called the measure an important part of the state's tax reform plan that would "keep Georgia competitive as a major international hub of commerce."
Oh, and of course, the NRA is backing them:
Since Thursday, more than a dozen brands have severed ties with the NRA. In a statement on Saturday, the NRA called those decisions "a shameful display of political and civic cowardice."
This is the same NRA that won’t allow guns at their conventions, and they keep the itinerary of their leader hidden from the public. How courageous!
Hmm. So, corporations cannot “attack conservatives” and not expect a fight, but if “conservatives attack” what the majority of America wants, well, that’s just good business.
Yes, the Republicans that want to help "keep Georgia competitive as a major international hub of commerce" could give a shit about Georgia if one of their largest employers doesn't bow down to the NRA. The Republicans want to help the little man, you see, and that means taking away tax incentives to the second largest employer in the greater Atlanta area behind, ironically, the Gwinnett County Public School system, which they would like to arm. With a little help from the NRA of course.
I know that the majority here already know this, but the Republicans are concerned about one thing: their own personal income. The NRA is a massive donor to that coffer, and no amount of common sense efforts and public relations moves for obvious reasons will change that. Instead, they are willing to risk the livelihood of their second largest employer to keep the gun money flowing.
A week ago or so, providing an exemption on taxes to their second largest employer was deemed a good thing that would help the entire economy of Georgia. Now that Delta backed off of their NRA affiliation, that exemption may very well be off the books.
Stay classy, GOP. Stay classy.
