Some people want to pretend.
They want to pretend that their heroes are rich, benevolent, gentle, and kind. They want to feel that someone is looking out for them, that their jobs are safe because their benefactors know what they are doing, that righteousness bears fiduciary results. Some people want to believe that any compromise is worth the end results. Thus they have allied themselves with fascists.
We now live in a quasi-fascist nation. I know, people will deny that the violence has reached the levels of Mussolini’s Italy or Hitler’s Germany. But there is violence. Sometimes real. Sometimes threatened. Sometimes through political force.
White people from Europe are welcomed — not just from Norway. America has hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Eastern Europe that the Trump administration says nothing about. But Africa? Haiti? Central and South America? Not those people.
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 (H.R. 2580; Pub.L. 89–236, 79 Stat. 911, enacted June 30, 1968), also known as the Hart–Celler Act,[1] changed the way quotas were allocated by ending the National Origins Formula that had been in place in the United States since the Emergency Quota Act of 1921. Representative Emanuel Celler of New York proposed the bill, Senator Philip Hart of Michigan co-sponsored it, and Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts helped to promote it.
The Hart–Celler Act abolished the quota system based on national origins that had been American immigration policy since the 1920s. The 1965 Act marked a change from past U.S. policy which had discriminated against non-northern Europeans.[2] In removing racial and national barriers the Act would significantly, and unintentionally, alter the demographic mix in the U.S.[2]
Wiki.
This is the reality that Trump and his allies cannot tolerate. Non white people were given an equal opportunity to come to the United States beginning during the Johnson Administration, when Trump’s Daddy-o was keeping ‘certain’ people out of his rentals. The laws that allowed Northern Europeans to immigrate here, but precluded brown people and even Southern Europeans, were jettisoned. We should remember that Southern Europeans were associated with anarchists and socialists in the 1920’s.
Trump carries his father’s dementia. And now we have him as President.
Where are the Libertarians in calling this stuff out? They are shadow puppets of a fascist.
