Milestones, we all measure them in different ways. But one almost all of us measure is our age, how many years have we been around on this hunk of rock orbiting the Sun? For VeloVixen, she hits the mark of 60 today.
One of her first achievements in life was Daddy’s Little Girl. A title she held until her dad passed away when she was only 19. After that came many more along with other events and accomplishments in life.
Another early achievement was pianist. She started taking lessons at the age of 8. This title earned her many other accomplishments including scholarships to college. From top 10 in her high-school class of over 750 to graduating from college magna cum laude with a degree in music performance. The intent being to become a performing artist. This goal was put on hold after she got married and went to work and became a mom while her new husband attended medical school.
Mom, another title. With it comes joys, happiness and sadly disappointments. And many many more job titles and responsibilities, including chauffeur. Chauffeur to her kids for school, swimming, soccer etc. Literally a soccer mom.
Somewhere along the line her ex demanded she quit working. For a time this worked well, she devoted her time to raising her three children. In this area she over-performed as she always does. She raised two doctors (a cardiologist and a family practitioner) and a software engineer. (More about these guys later.
As her last child started attending school this left VeloVixen with days to fill. And fill them she did. She joined numerous community organizations as a volunteer and board member including a prominent local charity called The Awareness Garden and the Board of the Virginia School for the Performing Arts. Organizing events and fundraisers.
In her down time she began going to the gym and as usual she over performed and took up bodybuilding as you may well have noticed by the picture above. Not bad for a mother of three in her mid to late 30s.
As her children aged her interest changed. She took up cycling. This opened many new doors, travel and competition as well as more opportunities to give. One of those opportunities involved starting a charity of her own. A charity devoted to raising funds to support local cancer patients. Cancer having touched her life through many family members including that of her father back when she was 19.
Cycling afforded the opportunity to travel and ride around the world including sections of the famed Tour de France. Ride with celebrities for other cancer fundraising.
And many of you know she was invaluable to me with Netroots For The Troops, Inc. As a board member and vital personnel on site and the year long work to make our Care Package assembly look like a piece of cake.
But the title that VeloVixen cherishes above all others is that of Gigi, the name her grandchildren call her. She became Gigi for the 3rd, 4th and 5th time this past year.

This one got lost.
VeloVixen is an excellent writer in many genres. She can write a passage of a romance novel that’s so vivid it’ll make a porn star blush. Yet write a poem so tender it’ll touch your heart and make you cry.
