Reportedly, there are thousands of ballots wasting away in the Opa-locka mail center, Miami-Dade County!
It’s been 18 years since Florida’s Election 2000 ClusterFuck. And dammit, Florida is deja-fucking-up again. The tiny margin in the gov and senate races has triggered a recount and Gillum and/or Nelson could win! But there are ballots wasting away in boxes in the Opa-locka mail center in Miami-Dade County — thousands of ballots!
Where are the protesters, media, D pols? Some protesters have shown up so far, but perhaps not as many as the 40 (?) BOXES of BALLOTS sitting in that postal center! (Joy Reid said, “some 40 boxes of ballots” on AM Joy today.)
Get this - a NY Times reporter from Coral Gables mailed his ballot from a Miami post office on Oct 29. Mailed NINE DAYS BEFORE the due date, ie, Election Day! Mailed from Miami to Miami! He checked up on election day and was told his ballot was NOT received. it is probably sitting in those boxes. Now extrapolate from this one example, with all those boxes in mind.
Ballots Are Still Inside Opa-locka Post Office
The Opa-locka debacle may explain why one Miami-Dade voter’s ballot never made it to the elections office. Kirk Nielsen, a former New Times writer who lives in Coral Gables, says he mailed his ballot at a University of Miami post office on October 29 but learned after Election Day that it hadn’t been received.
“Of course I wonder if my ballot is sitting in the Opa-locka mail facility, along with many others,” he says. “I hope there’s an investigation.”
Having voted by mail in several prior elections, Nielsen says he knew how to check the Miami-Dade elections website to see when his ballot arrived. When he checked on Tuesday afternoon, however, the site informed him that his ballot hadn't been received yet. Nielsen briefly considered driving to his polling place to fill out a provisional ballot but ultimately assured himself it was probably just a matter of the website not being updated.
When he called the elections office the next day, however, a representative told him his ballot wasn’t counted and had never even arrived.
And this tweet is making the rounds.
Anyone in FL, especially, but not just in FL — our pols impact us all with their votes, including congress critters from other states — we need to fill up the Dem side as much as possible, and not just in Congress (Gillum, Stacey). Please get the word out — push your reps, media, get the protests going! Florida ppl — lawyers? We need to #CountEveryVote

Just got time to UPDATE: Yesterday it was reported that 266 of those imprisoned Opa-locka ballots have been sent on to … die. Because delivery to their addressed destination didnt meet the ridiculously tight and unnecessary deadline of 7PM on election day, so too bad voter! That is all we know of the Opa-locka situation. Good enough then? Not nearly!
There is still much sunlight and action needed around what’s in that postal center, the why, the when, the what, the who, the how…. the HOW MANY! Even the where, because the NAACP says ballots couldve been kept from delivery by due date in other counties around the state)
This should be a fight with Stacey Abrams (praise her!) as the inspirational touchstone, the model and the motivator to count every damned vote, no matter the absurd rules and technicalities that deny us winners who truly won!
Is an American election just a warped game with whatever cooked up, slapped together nonsense qualifying as ironclad “rules are rules,” that are written in stone, no matter how unfairly they eliminate players? Is this how we are to seriously run a country, a country with purportedly democratic elections? Truly democratic elections do not unfairly eliminate “players,” because there are no players — there are only voters. Voting is not sport, it is a precious right. But even though that’s what we’re told, and that’s what many of us believe, looks like voters are still getting played!
Additionally, some have suggested here that other ballots outside of the LATE delivered 266 probably didnt make the due date for delivery. That begs this question: Is it the law that mailed-in ballots that arent postmarked by the due date/time can be HELD at a postal center, do not have to be delivered to their addresses? And if it is the case, which I’d think should be illegal for all mail, no less for ballots, then we’re staring into a democracy’s black hole instead of the clear, clean sunshine it requires, and this must be addressed and changed!
There is a call for lawyers and volunteers, today, by the lawyer for Nelson! There is a lot that smells bad in FL because there is another sort of toxic RED TIDE that is swamping Florida’s elections! Again!
More Votes Found, NAACP Calls for Opa-Locka Ballots to be Counted
How many ballots are at stake? A report by CNN quotes Suzy Trutie, spokesperson for the county supervisor of elections, as saying the shipment in question contained 266 ballots that would not be counted. Florida law requires that all mailed ballots arrive at election offices by 7 p.m. on election day.
Though not enough to turn the tide, the relative handful of uncounted votes – and the NAACP’s ability to legally challenge their exclusion – could be a touchstone for other parts of Florida where mail delivery was held up for various reasons.
Per CNN at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, “By law, all ballots for federal races must be kept by an elections board for up to 22 months after the election, which means the ballots will not be destroyed and could theoretically be brought into a potential court case.”
