From now until December 15, in most states, you can enroll in a health insurance policy in the Affordable Care Act if you don’t already have coverage from your employer or public coverage under Medicare. While there are lots of brokers and websites out there to sell you policies, it makes sense to go through Healthcare.gov. Policies sold there have to comply with all of the requirements of the ACA, and you’ll also be assured that you can get the federal subsidy to help cover premium costs by shopping there.
If you need some extra assistance in figuring out all of your options, or helping someone else figure out theirs, check out sites like the Get Covered Connector from Young Invincibles and Get America Covered. They have resources to connect you—or whoever you might be assisting—with someone nearby to walk you through the process in person.
It’s a great time to do it. Beat the holiday rush and rub Trump’s and the Republicans’ noses in the continued existence of Obamacare.
