This is just a random idea I had. Trump is now crying in his milquetoast, all alone in the White House, because the very bad Democrats are denying him a wall (except for the one his back is now up against).
OK, building an all encompassing wall is an act of lunacy. Yet, there are many much worse things that could happen. That is, there would be a finite cost and finite set of adverse consequences.
Since we now control the House and also can block most bills in the Senate, we may be in a position to take advantage of Trump’s ardent desire for the wall. The question we need to answer is, how much does he want it?
Can we get all the way to single payer healthcare in exchange for the wall? How about a completely rewritten immigration and asylum package that is rational, compassionate, and realistic?
He wants the wall a lot, but there are also things we want a lot. Could there be something we want as much as he wants the wall, and which we adjudge so beneficial that it would counter the negative consequences of the wall?
Possibly not, but I think our Democratic leaders should at least carefully explore the possibility.
