Last Sunday evening the body of Celine Walker was discovered in a Jacksonville hotel. The sheriff's office was called to the scene at 8pm. Ms. Walker had been shot to death.
We are only finding out about this now because of the local Sheriff's policy not to refer to any victims as transgender. Instead they referred to her as a man.
Many of us in the trans community who know her don't know, don't want to know or don't care to know a trans person's dead name. If you tell us what your name is, we respect that.
And her Black trans life mattered

The other day I made a post about my friend Celine Walker who was shot to death in Jacksonville, FL last Sunday.
This morning I woke up with this horrific situation all over my heart once again.
Celine was not a pageant girl. She didn’t even enjoy going to gay clubs or events. She lived a low key life where she did whatever needed to be done in order for her to survive.
There are several parts of this story that disturb me very much. One is that Jacksonville is home to some of the most amazingly talented Transwomen I know. That being said you’d think that this city could have some type of policy for dealing with the death and murder of transpeople. They don’t.
I’m am BEGGING Everyone to PLEASE CONTACT the local media about the misgendering of Celine Walker a Transwoman who was only trying to live HER LIFE.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as well as the detective on this case made it VERY CLEAR to me that they do not refer to victims as Transgender.
Please Call TODAY & Let US be HEARD!!!!!
