Can someone explain to me why tonight’s CNN Town Hall included three lawmakers, one law enforcement officer and the spokesperson for the National Rifle Association? Four of those people are charged with forming and enforcing public policy, and are accountable to voters; the NRA is accountable to donors.
One of the worst moments from tonight’s powerful town hall came when Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel was trying to explain how the law prevents them from taking action sometimes. This was in response to Dana Loesch accusing him of allowing the shooting to happen. As he was talking Loesch interrupted him and accused him of ignoring 39 direct threats. It was typical NRA bluster and BS and it had no place in this forum where elected officials were talking to their constituents.
Her presence was inappropriate and offensive. The NRA was elevated to the same role as public servants and given a platform that made them appear to be equally important. CNN really blew it.
