Minnesota ABC affiliate KSTP reports that during a group activity at the Harmony Learning Center in Maplewood, Minnesota, a third grade child was able to reach into a police officer’s holster and fire off his gun. Luckily, no one was hurt.
The release says the officer was sitting on a bench, and a third-grader "reached over and placed his finger into the officer's gun holster and pressed the trigger of the officer's gun causing it to discharge though the bottom of the holster."
The round hit the floor, and no one was injured, the press release states.
Not good. By their very nature, guns are mortally dangerous. They are incredibly easy to make use of in relation to how much damage they can produce. The NRA chooses to blame everyone and everything other than guns and people who shoot guns, for the thousands of dead children in our schools, while calling for more guns to be placed inside of schools. Our current white supremacist in chief has decided to grab onto that dumb idea and run with it, calling for “offensive measures” to be taken in our country’s schools. Meanwhile, a child no older than 10 years of age is able to mistakenly shoot a gun off during a fun activity in a school gym.
The police department release also said the officer was "unaware of the child touching his gun until the weapon was fired."
The holster is considered a level-3 security, the city added, and it has a trigger guard "that typically cannot be touched or fired in the holster, but the child's small finger was able to reach inside."
Where ever you find guns there is a chance, no matter how well-intentioned, that they will find the wrong hands.
