Donnie Dotard, Master of Delusion, put his world class negotiating skills on display in January when he agreed, then reneged, on a deal with Chuck Schumer that would save DACA recipients from deportation in exchange for $20 billion for his wall and other border security measures. Of course he blamed the failure on the Democrats and claimed “victory” in a tweet:
Cryin' Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA. We must have safety and security, together with a strong Military, for our great people!
Well, thanks to today’s Supreme Court refusal to rule on a federal court injunction that keeps DACA in place, Trump can kiss his big beautiful wall goodbye unless Mexico has a change of heart.
As USA Today explains, the ruling gives Dreamers an indefinite reprieve:
Now, those DREAMers can rest a little easier knowing that they will remain protected and can continue renewing their DACA protections as the case moves back to lower courts.
Andrew Pincus, a Supreme Court litigator at the Mayer Brown law firm, said appeals courts would likely rule on several DACA-related lawsuits sometime over the summer. That means the issue would not come back before the Supreme Court until its next term, which begins in October.
So, by refusing to take “yes” for an answer, Trump has successfully decoupled DACA from any discussion of a border wall, or any other threat he wants to make. The Democratic congress that Trump will face after the mid terms will see to it he never sees a penny for his wall.
