Meteor Blades has posted an excellent accounting of the extraordinary testimony Adm. Mike Rogers, director of the National Security Agency, gave today before the Senate Intelligence Committee where he told senators that he had NOT received explicit authorization from the president to actively counter Russian cyber warfare that is currently underway. It’s extraordinary that Rogers would even make that admission. He just told every Russian spy and hacker that we are vulnerable to future cyber attacks and we are doing little to combat the threat.
What is especially troubling was Rogers demeanor as he recounted how he, and other security agency heads, are struggling to counter Russian meddling, while getting no support or guidance from the White House. Here is a link to CNN website with video of Rogers’ testimony. Note his obvious exasperation as he answers questions about measures that can and should be taken.
This is clearly a legitimate line of inquiry...why is the president neglecting his most basic duty under the Constitution? Why is he refusing to protect the country from enemies both foreign and domestic?
