I’ll keep this short and simple. I have been giving a lot of thought about the people ICE is rounding up and deporting and the idea of re-framing the argument appeals to me.
We have all heard stories about people, good people with families and ties to the community (See Al Othman, pictured above), even veterans are being rounded up and deported even when they follow the instructions given them. People dropping children off at schools. People arrested when they show up for meetings about their status. I believe it’s time to call them what they are; Political Prisoners.
America isn’t a country with Political Prisoners but Trump has changed all of that. The arrests are purely pandering to his base – it’s not about the politics of the people arrested and/or deported – they can’t actually vote. It’s about the politics of who is pleased by the arrests/deportations. This isn’t being done for safety reasons; it’s pure politics that we’re locking these people up. We’re NOT rounding up just criminals, no matter who claims it is so.
To my way of thinking, that makes them Political Prisoners. We should call them that.
