no HAHAHA today, just an appeal to the generosity of kogs everywhere. A week ago, I posted a memorial to Tricia Wyse Lefevre (September 8th, 1970 - March 5th , 2016), also know as The Pootie Queen. Tricia fostered community on dailykos like no other kog I’ve known.
Soon after, I learned that Tricia’s daughter Franscesca and granddaughter Mikayla are in some trouble and could use whatever help you can offer.
Gotta an off-world wave from Franki:
Thanks! I'm so amazed! Can someone pass on a huge thank you from me to the kos peeps?
UPDATE: There’s an offer of $200 in matching donations! We’re at $1,030 right now, and if we can get up to $1,230, we’ll get another $200 towards getting Franki and Mikayla to work and school!
UPDATE #2: There’s a new match offer of another $200, bringing the total match to $400. If we can get to $1,230, we’ll get to $1,630 from three anonymous kogs, including our new double matcher (or match doubler??) . Boy howdy we could actually close this round of funding for Franki and Mikayla today…
UPDATE #3: We hit the match level, and the total is $1,733. Started the day at less than 700. You kogs are rocking it! Let’s see if we can’t push past the target today!
UPDATE #4: We’ve broken through the $2000 ceiling and moved the goalposts to $3000! Thanks so much to everyone who’d donated, tweeted, shared, reposted, blogged elsewhere, cheered us on, and sent good wishes! Well done, people. First and ten: do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Help Franscesca and Mikayla get around to school and work! Franscesa says
Due to an accident, I lost my last car. Unfortunately, due to my lack of vehicle, I am unable to get to work and get Mikayla to appointments. If I could get any help, it would be greatly appreciated so I can create a more stable future for both of us. This car could help me keep a job so I can support my daughter and would be a huge blessing. We can't do it without a car, as her doctors are too far and most jobs are not within walking distance. This car is vital to us being able to make it to her specialists and for me to support her. Thanks for your generosity!
Their back-story has a lot of heartache.
Mikayla is a victim of SBS, shaken baby syndrome, caused by her father. Twice. Both times he was alone with his infant daughter. His excuse the first time was that the baby fell off his lap, and although CPS investigated, he got away with it. The second incident almost killed her: Mikayla was in ICU with constant seizures, a stroke, a severe brain bleed, and partial loss of vision. Doctors didn't think she would survive, initially; once they controlled the seizures and got her off the ventilator, her suck reflex was gone. But she was stronger than expected and, with lots of therapy of good medical attention, she was discharged home to Franki's care. (Her father was arrested, tried, and convicted of child abuse. He came up for parole recently, but Franki packed up Mikayla's medical records and convinced the parole board to keep him in prison.)
Mikayla has had eye surgeries (and corrective lenses) to enable her to see. She wears a brace on one leg (weak from the stroke and bleed) and will have to have surgery in a few years to correct her inturning. She sees physical and occupational therapists on a regular basis. Cognitive problems and other defects from the brain damage are being addressed as they emerge; we all hope that she will continue to amaze her doctors and defy their predictions.
