It’s that time of year again!
March Madness. The NCAA Basketball Tournament!
Filling out those brackets!
Filling out the NCCA Men’s Basketball Tournament Brackets is a ritual that I have had for decades that still persists but, truth be told, though, I don’t follow any sport as much as I used to with the possible exception of college football.
I mean, basically, I was a toddler Nate Silver-type that kept spiral notebooks full of point spread predictions and could rattle off obscenely obscure sports statistics before I was a teenager.
One of the things that I wanted to be when I grew up (besides a journalist and a monk) was a Vegas bookmaker.
While some retention of this stuff remains, I’ve lost interest, for the most part...for a lot of reasons both personal and because of my not liking the way the NCAA does business, at times.
I also went through a period in the 1990’s where I more or less lost interest in politics...mostly, I think, because I was also struggling with active drug and alcohol addiction...that interest in politics was revived due to the September 11th attacks and it waned again when I was going through a series of personal crises from 2005 up until the 2008 Democratic primary...now, it seems, the politics bug is back for good and is as strong as ever!
I have never lost interest in reading but I have lost interest in reading certain genres of books and certain authors at times.
I doubt that I will ever be as intense a spectator sports fan that I used to be...But my love for the basketball and football programs of the team seeded 3rd in the West bracket of the tourney this year will always remain.
Go Blue!
Today’s question: What hobby or passion did you once have that no longer holds as mush interest to you?
