I'm so sad because some long time male friends, whom I once trusted with my children, now consider me the enemy. All because of politics and opposing views.
Here's the worst part. We're all the same. medicare-eliglble, downhill-side-of-the-bell-curve age.
There is little chance any of us will be shot with a gun or shoot someone before we die; a very small likelihood that we'll be bankrupted by a medical condition, be poisoned from waste in our water or pollution in the air, or impacted by the use of birth control or an abortion by a wife, sister, daughter or niece.
We won't live long enough to die from heat stroke, hypothermia or drowning as the result of climate change. Our views about CEO salaries, wall street reform, unions, teacher salaries and how some cops are dirty, others are just mean, don't have to align. We can differ on whether or not racism still exists. And we'll never really know, with absolute certainly, which of our 'leaders' -- and the parties we identify with -- are or were, in actual fact, crooks, liars, frauds, thieves and/or treasonists.
We can’t do anything about Russia, cable news or social media. Religious conflicts, terrorism, greed, inequality and oligarchs will always exist.
None of the above matters. We'll only believe what we want to believe anyway. But just because a friend has strong opposing beliefs, that shoudn’t mean we have to act as if we’re warring tribes.
We all have so little time on this earth and we're ending relationships because of ideology and pride.
No actions, nothing that has taken place in our own realities can support such division but we're still shutting each other out in deference to hatred and fear. There is no benefit from this, only tremendous loss, and an undeniable weakening of our democratic republic.
