Is it just me? Or did everyone else have a tough day yesterday too? Difficult day reliving the complicated legacy of Dr King’s life and death. A lot to unpack for many of us. There is no doubt that Dr King is a Martyr in the Holy Church of whatever religion they were dumb enough to put me in charge of. His work was truly revolutionary and the religious underpinnings of that require at the very least a deep respect for theology.
On to the purpose of tonight’s diary … It is most definitely time to get out of the way for a second and lend our attention to those who are speaking. Many are speaking loud and clear these days. I would advise the Democratic Party (however you define it) to do the same. It should come as no surprise that I think the party operation is in need of some new faces and laptops to stream the protests that have been going on since at the very least the death of Michael Brown.
But first, a word from our sponsors ...

Here’s what brought me to the tag line for the diary. I was reading this article from The Root about a young mayor in Stockton, CA who is working to fulfill one of Dr King’s most radical concepts, Universal Basic Income. It flips the concepts of government assistance, stereotypes of poverty, and our basic view of humanity on their heads. Imagine investing in a community before it needed emergency assistance of any kind. Think about the savings for society. Just pretend that you are a good Capitalist for a second.
Following his January 2017 inauguration, the then-26-year-old mayor tasked his team with researching the most radical policy interventions they could find, especially around poverty reduction. Tubbs sought to innovate in a city where nearly a quarter of residents live below the federal poverty level. The big idea? Something called “basic income.”
Read the whole article. No. Right now. Read the article. Read the comments. I’ll wait right here …
No. Seriously. Break gravlax’s #1 Rule of Internet Sanity for this one … Hall Pass!
I think I will just let the video finish my thoughts on this tonight.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

In the front-page story about Bill-O losing in court over keeping his actions secret — Captain Frogbert notes that the attitude expressed in his actions .. is not limited to him.
Finally, we on this site have been lampooning the phrase “thoughts and prayers” in recent months … someone who deserves them (and much more) is our fellow Top Commenter, Puddytat — who is in an epic battle right now … but who I am placing my chips on, for more than sentimental reasons.
