I am inspired by Trump’s presidency, for I am a socialist.
To be clear: Trump is hell. He represents all that is wrong with capitalism, and nought that is right.
Which is why I am truly, honestly inspired by his ascendence. The evidence I would proffer is the various explanations. I will entertain each:
1. “Trump was elected because of racist backlash to Obama on the right.”
I reject this out of hope. I do not believe that we have come so little distance since MLk and civil rights to the point that the precise latent nativism in this country and all countries that democracy is supposed to protect against is more powerful than that democracy. If it were, then democracy itself would be a bankrupt system, and I do not believe it to be.
2. “Trump was elected because of sexism.”
See above, but swap out racism and nativism for sexism.
3. “Trump was elected according to the teleological arguments of Marxist utopianism, whereby the suffering classes introduce chaos (revolution) in response to deteriorating material conditions such as those posited by Tom Picketty in Capital.”
-This is my position, and I am inspired. How about you? Chime in in the comments. Let’s get a dialogue going.
