In November 2016, the National average for a gallon of gasoline was $2.14. Today, the National average for a gallon of gasoline is $2.86.
Rising gas prices are something everybody understands. They literally see the impact every single day. The average US household uses about 1000 gallons of gasoline every year. That means that every household can expect to pay about $632 more for gas this year than they did in 2016.
Democrats simply have to say that Trump’s reckless Iranian policy is the reason that people are paying more at the pump. It should be the first thing they say when asked about Trump reneging on the deal. People are not going to care about centrifuges and enriching uranium or about how the Iranians were in compliance or how Trump is strengthening the hardliners in Tehran. Keep it simple.
Democrats don’t need to provide evidence for their claim. People see the evidence every single day. Whether it is true that there is a direct correlation between Trump’s Iranian policy and rising gas prices is not relevant. All Democrats need to say is that gas prices started rising when Trump started indicating that he was going to pull out of the deal.
So repeat after me: Rising gas prices are due to Trump canceling the Iran deal.
