One of the dangers of focusing on the daily outrages of the ongoing disaster that is the Trump administration is losing sight of the outside world. The French news source Liberation reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is attempting to influence French President Emmanuel Macron and German Prime Minister Angela Merkel to pressure Iran on the subject of ballistic missiles. What is particularly worrying to me is the thinly veiled threat he made to Merkel that more Syrian refugees could be coming to Germany without her assistance in his plan. That threat would seem to imply that Israel could be contemplating more military action in Syria. I have not seen a diary here or noticed U.S. media reporting on this statement by Netanyahu. Iran, either in response or as a negotiating strategy, is talking of stepping up their nuclear enrichment capability by producing more centrifuges.
There is a bill in congress now, Senate Bill 2047, to prevent pre-emptive war in North Korea. I do not know if there is a similar bill that would prevent military action against Iran. With John Bolton occupying a position of influence in the White House I would urge all who are against another war in the Middle East to contact their representatives and say no to military action against Iran without congressional approval.
