Here we go again with Collins and the malfunctioning Media:
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said Sunday that she would not support a Supreme Court nominee who had “demonstrated hostility” toward Roe v. Wade, “because that would mean to me that their judicial philosophy did not include a respect for established decisions,” and that President Donald Trump “may not have been informed” when he pledged to make abortion a litmus test during the presidential campaign.
So much BS in so few lines.
- “demonstrated hostility” is code for “Send me a nominee that has not spoken publicly about their deep desire to overturn Roe. I want political cover when I vote for whoever you send.”
- You voted for Gorsuch and the others who did not support precedent when they overturned the right of unions to collect dues in the Janus decision.
- Collins: “Please ignore the interview that Chris Matthews had with Trump on the issue of abortion. That was just Trump being misinformed. Also, ignore any of his campaign speeches. Trump means well, but he is an idiot.”
And when asked further to explain about Trump being not informed:
“The President told me in our meeting that he would not ask that question, and that is what he has most recently said on the advice of his attorney,” Collins responded. “So I think what he said as a candidate may not have been informed by the legal advice that he now has that it would be appropriate for him to ask a nominee how he or she would rule on a specific issue.”
The guy who has told the American people over 3,000 lies is not going to ask a prospective SCOTUS nominee his or her position on Roe. Uh huh. Tapper did not press Collins on this point of absurdity.
Tapper did get around to asking her if she thought Gorsuch would overturn Roe. Here is Collins’ response:
“I actually don’t,” Collins said.
“I had a very long discussion with Justice Gorsuch in my office and he pointed out to me that he is a co-author of a whole book on precedent,” she said. “So someone who devotes that much time to writing a book on precedent, I think understands how important a principle that is in our judicial system.”
Once again, Tapper fails to press that Gorsuch just threw a labor law precedent out the window. He lets Collins lie like a cheap fuckin’ rug.
Once again, Collins and the Media do their twisted dance. She sends up signals of how she will cave, or uses weasel words, or flat out lies to maintain her fraudelent facade of a “moderate” Republican, and the Media fails miserably to hold her accountable.
