The Wall Street Journal has published an OpEd from Joe Lieberman endorsing Joe Crowley over the Democratic Candidate in NY-14.
www.wsj.com/…
In a stunning, tone-deaf display — Lieberman (which would be the height of lack-of-self-awareness), or some WSJ Editor sub-titled the piece:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hurts the party, Congress and even America.
As if Joe Lieberman has had a thought in recent memory that hasn’t hurt “the party”… and I do assume he’s not referring to the Independent Party.
Regardless — J-Lie apparently hasn’t learned anything in the past decade or so, as he shows his continued disdain for Primary Elections, let alone for the young woman who won, by the second paragraph:
Because the policies Ms. Ocasio-Cortez advocates are so far from the mainstream, her election in November would make it harder for Congress to stop fighting and start fixing problems. Thanks to a small percentage of primary votes, all of the people of New York’s 14th Congressional District stand to lose a very effective representative in Washington.
Unfortunately, the rest of the piece is behind WSJ’s paywall.
Thankfully, Mediaite.com was able to give a little more insight and detail (here: www.mediaite.com/...), reporting that he specifically suggests voters cast ballots on the 3rd party Working Families Party line, rather than voting for the democratically elected, Democratic candidate. The article is also kind enough to provide an excerpt that details his concerns about Ocasio-Cortez’s positions as well as his loose relationship with rational analysis.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez didn’t speak much about foreign policy during the primary, but when she did, it was from the DSA policy book—meaning support for socialist governments, even if they are dictatorial and corrupt (Venezuela), opposition to American leadership in the world, even to alleviate humanitarian disasters (Syria), and reflexive criticism of one of America’s great democratic allies (Israel).
She has received the most attention for calling to “Abolish ICE,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This makes no sense unless you no longer want any rules on immigration or customs to be enforced.
These are standard, baseless scare tactics, to say the least, but the coup de grâceless is that last little bit where he attempts to equate ICE with the first, last and only defense against our borders being overrun by rampaging immigrants… and relentless customs violations?
I’m so very glad we don’t have to deal with Joe Lieberman on the national stage anymore, but I’m so very sorry he crawled out from under his rock, even this once.

Early comments suggest that J-Lie’s opinions are a non-starter — none to worry / a non issue.
I’ll make clear my perspective that any thumb-on-the-scale meaning to keep Crowley in this race is not just unwelcome, but unethical as well anti-democratic.
