Last week, my dad and I took a spontaneous 158 mile trip to Cambria, California. We decided since there were only two weeks left of summer ( I start on Monday.:( ) that we needed to take a trip as soon as possible. That turned out to be at around 8 am the next morning. It was an amazing trip. We had an amazing hotel room and location. Everything there was so beautiful too.
We drove on the newly reopened Highway one. To say the view was terrifyingly beautiful is only understandable if you’ve driven on it.
After we got there we ventured to the small town to get food. After that, we went back to our room and crossed the street to the beach.
It was a pretty laid back day. Later in the evening we went to dinner and strolled through the small, movie-like town. After we got back to our room we decided we wanted to go to Hearst Castle the next day. So, we did.
Enough with the wildlife though, let’s take a look at the beautiful scenery.
After the amazing trip to Hearst Castle, we headed back to the hotel and rested. We went to dinner and then I posted my weekly diary. After resting for two hours, it was dark. We made our way across the street and down to the beach. I must say, the beach is so different at night. Being wrapped up in my fluffy blanket and feeling the ocean breeze, plus being able to look up and see the stars might be one of the most freeing feelings. And I have galloped up a hill, at full speed, with no tack on the horse before. (Talk about freeing.)
The next day, I was packing to go home and enjoying some quiet moments. Hearing the ocean in the background. When, all of the sudden my dad comes barging back into the room and says, “ F*ck it, do you want to stay one more day? This trip was way too short.” Of course, I said yes. So, our trip continued.
It was the second and last full day of our trip. We drove around and had a nice day. We went to Morro beach and a few others as well. We stopped at a beach with a giant rock. On the other side of the rock, you guessed it. Even more rocks! We talked to a local man who told us the rock towers just started appearing about four days before.
We took a leisurely drive back to our hotel. Ate a late dinner and hung out at the beach, admiring the Milkyway and constellations.
Now, we had finally reached our last day. Friday. I had to be at work by 5:00. That ended up not happening though. On the way home, we stopped at a beautiful restaurant named Nepenthe. The food was great. But the location was better. It was set on the edge of a cliff. Off to the side of Highway 1.
One the way back my dad stopped three times to look at this bridge. I just asked him for the name of it and some things about it since he was obsessed with it. And he doesn’t even know the name of it. Typical.
This diary is pretty long, so I’m just going to keep this ending short. I was late to work because of traffic. And I was really happy to be home, but also very sad because I missed having the freedom to go to the beach on my own at night. And now school is going to start and I’m excited, nervous, and sad because I don’t want summer to end. Hopefully, high school will be cool.
