This is so obvious. People have speculated on Graham’s motives for toadying. They are clear to me — the Senate is his life, the only barrier is primary opposition in 2020, so he sidles up to Trump (as well as his influence with him, documented in Fear).
There’s no way he’d take AG or Sec of Defense — risk they are two year jobs, then out of government work.
But — lifetime to the SC? I suspect he’d leap at that.
And what sweet revenge for Trump (and Repubs).
The downside for the Repubs is he is 63, so maybe 20+ years not up to 40.
But he’d be readily and quickly approved. (He might have to step aside from the committee, but they could appoint a short term replacement).
Other one is “scandal” in his life might come out (but how do we oppose him for being gay? And it wouldn’t prevent him from getting approved, and one big concern — hurting him electorally — would be gone.)
This makes so much sense.
