An open letter to Senators Collins, Murkowski, Heitkamp, Donnelly, Flake and Manchin
I’m really curious as to why you consider yourselves so very special, that your next election, or your personal future is important enough that you would change the fate of the entire nation to protect your privileged status?
Throughout our history courageous Americans have risked and lost their lives protecting their fellow citizens. There are many stories of soldiers who threw themselves on grenades, suffering inevitable death, to save their comrades. Firefighters raced into the crumbling Twin Towers on 9-11, to save stranded workers. Many of them died in their effort to preserve the lives of others. Stories of heroism are legion among working people.
And yet, it seems, the only ‘preservation and protection’ which informs your vote about the upcoming Supreme Court nomination, is the craven necessity of saving your own place in the political universe.
I am deeply ashamed, especially of you, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, for even considering a vote to confirm a nominee, male or female, who is pledged to repeal rights women have fought to attain since the time of Dolly Madison.
Please get it into your head. YOU are not that important. You will be fine, even if some people are angry with you. By all evidence each of you could retire to a life of substantial comfort. So it would really be unforgivable if you choose to wreck the country for your own selfish ends. History will remember you. Your descendants will know of your venal, self serving action. Save your reputation as well as the nation and vote to reject the Kavanaugh nomination.
