I wrote a diary yesterday where I samed my little rural town in southern Illinois enforcing new parking laws in a pretty over-the-top manner. This makes no sense to me. My city has millions in surplus and still the lowest taxes, across the board, in the County. I mean we have a skate board park in a town of 8,700. Lighted tennis courts. Parks every block or so? Starting at Thanksgiving we buy ad time on local stations with a shout out to come shop here. We pay local artist to create art for our parks. I will admit some of it is questionable in quality, but I don't really care. We're creating art, paying people for it, and putting it in the public domain. No chance I will ever be against that!
I am a walker. About 20,000 steps a day. I used to walk out of the edge of town I live into the "bigger" city. Now I just walk around the few blocks around me. Most if not all of the people around me know me by sight. I walk by their homes 4-5 times a day. I get waves. "Good morning." This time I stopped to talk to people and asking for their support. To start a protest.
I know many of them get our little town's paper the Herald. They put mailboxes in the yard for its deliver. I said they must have read about the "chicken freak out." That was me and the lady that lived behind me. I didn't engage in protest although many did against the idea of Amy and I having a chicken coup. We just read the city regulations and there was nothing about chickens. So we called City Hall and all hell broke lose. You'd think we wanted man eating tigers instead of chickens that laid eggs we could eat.
Now we have laws on the books that says we can't have cickens, snakes, tortise, Peacoks, and a lot of other things.
I mentioned this to folks and suggested we might go to City Council meetings as a group. The guy with like a $150,000 RV, Trump voter he was proud to tell me, was all in. As were others. Many. When I change this or that with my land I do this simple thing, I knock on the door of the people around me and ask them, face-to-face if they are cool with it. We're a little Liberation here. Live and let live.
City Hall is going to have a wake up next session. I got a group far right/left, across the board.
