One of Donald Trump’s totally competent sons claims that an employee of a Chicago restaurant and bar, The Aviary, spat on him Tuesday night. CNN reports that he told Breitbart News that, "It was purely a disgusting act by somebody who clearly has emotional problems." The Chicago Sun Times adds that the incident took place around 8:30 PM, and published the restaurant’s statement on the matter that says the incident concerned a female employee who has been put on leave while their HR department figures out what to do. Neither the Secret Service nor the woman in question have spoken to the media about this incident.
However, Eric Trump, not unlike any aspiring Republican candidate or Trump family member, was not about to let this incident go by without a swipe at the real culprits—the Democratic Party—explaining to Breitbart that, "For a party that preaches tolerance, this once again demonstrates they have very little civility. When somebody is sick enough to resort to spitting on someone, it just emphasizes a sickness and desperation and the fact that we're winning." Surprisingly, Eric Trump didn’t have much to say about “tolerance” and “civility" when a MAGA supporter was sending pipe bombs to Trump’s political opposition.
This is another example of Trump administration officials and “advisers” finding themselves being treated like pariahs in the public square. There have been incidents over the past couple of years including former EPA chief and fossil fuel toad Scott Pruitt being confronted by a woman with her child at a restaurant, and former propaganda bile-spewer Sarah Huckabee Sanders being refused service at a restaurant.
Eric Trump is probably best known for his foundation that helps kids with cancer. The same foundation that has been the home of Donald and the Trump organization’s dubious money-laundering-like uses of the charity’s money. Just one of the many corrupt dealings that led to closing the Trump Foundation this past December. Eric is the guy that, like everyone else in his family, seems to only have enough business acumen to make it in a rigged game. This is a guy that tried to surreptitiously fire a man who loyally worked for the Trump family for almost two decades in order to cover up the fact that they had employed an undocumented worker for so long. What’s worse? Some spit in your face or a spit, a slap, and taking away your livelihood?
