According to this Newsweek article, Congress was given guidance in 2015 on the question of who is impeachable, and Jared Kushner actually is included. Not by name, silly. That would be too cool. But in his role as a “Civilian Official.” There may be some wiggle room in interpretation, but the conclusion seems to be that the House is the arbiter of record on the point.
So… Where to begin?
It would appear that impeachment proceedings afford some protection against a pardon while in process.
A pardon following a successful impeachment would not undo the impeachment itself: Jared would be barred from serving in tRump’s Administration.
Jared, if found guilty, and/or pardoned, could lose 5th Amendment protections.
There appear to be strong and compelling arguments for and reasons to remove Kushner from the White House. His actions literally cry out for investigation. There are many, many instances of potential crimes committed by him from the White House, and several committed on his way there. So many crimes. Where to start? I dunno, pick your fave.
As to the Senate, and how would they conduct the trial… that’s hard to know.
There’s reason to believe that Mitch would be forced to handle everything about the charges Speaker Pelosi would hand him with the utmost respect and conduct a thorough trial in the Senate… and then everything about Jared’s conduct, and those around him, would be a matter of public record for the ages.
Even if he didn’t; even if he found a way to refuse to hold a trial, however, it would place Jared’s conduct front and center in a way that would implicate the entire White House in ways it will be impossible to extricate themselves from.
Something to consider...
