Normally over the past several years, I have “celebrated” Transgender Day of Remembrance by listing the names of the transpeople around the world who had died as a result of anti-trans violence since the previous TDOR.
I just don’t feel up to it this year. There are 331 names listed here if you feel the need to see them. I’ve decided to post the following PBS report instead. If the past is any prediction, there will be about two dozen names of transwomen murdered in the US, several hundred transwomen who were murdered in Brazil, and more than a few in Mexico, India, and Central and South America. And many of the bodies will have been discovered having been burned and/or mutilated excessively.
And you will likely have no difficulty finding people who will be blaming us transpeople for bringing this upon ourselves.
I offer this video report produced by PBS several months ago.
Namaste.
