Do you know anyone who is struggling to pay for their medication?
Do know anyone who has had to choose between paying rent or purchasing a life saving pill?
For someone like me who is allergic to shellfish, the cost of an Epipen, which in 2007 was $94, surging to $700, literally made me have to make a possible life or death decision. Do I pay $2,100 dollars (one for home, one for work and one for my backpack) or do I just try my luck with a $13.00 pack of Benadryl and hope that it gets into my bloodstream in time?
It’s time to stop the greed, and stand firmly on the side of saving more lives. Our tax money is used by highly profitable, private drug companies to research and develop medicines, and it is time OUR investment goes back into PROVIDING PUBLIC HEALTHCARE!
The Lower Drug Costs Now Act, will be voted on this week to expand affordable coverage through community health centers. Under this bill, the cost of asthma medications could drop from $1,400 to $270 per year.
As the future Congressman of Georgia's 13th District, I am proud to support:
- Increasing the number of drugs that can be negotiated
- Stopping the spikes in drug cost that directly fuels corporate profits
- Expanding coverage to the uninsured, including needed dental, vision and dental treatments
My opponent has not co-sponsored this bill, nor is he siding with Congressional Progressive Democrats that are pushing for a stronger bill. Therefore, we are left with this:
Drug prices are crushing American families. A bill to fix this shouldn’t work for only some drugs or some people—it should help everyone afford lifesaving treatments.
As Congressman, I'll push for an improved Lower Drug Cost bill and I'll create a Big Pharma Reform bill that requires drug companies to pay 100% of the FDA budget for the research and testing of treatments.
The the United States pays significantly higher prices than the rest of the developed world when it comes to prescription drugs. It is time for that to change. I’m running for Congress because we must change that. I need Epipens, but I also need a place to live.
