There are some simple facts that I'm surprised so many people still seem to be missing. I hope all of us do everything we can to absorb these truths and explain them simply — because they are simple — to those who don't seem to understand the details. People saying Mueller didn’t find enough evidence to bring charges are completely wrong. The opposite is true.
Mueller stated that he was following the DOJ guidelines which say that a sitting president cannot be indicted. If someone cannot be indicted, he/she cannot be tried, and therefore cannot defend his/herself against the charges in court. Mueller stated that he believed it was wrong to accuse someone who cannot defend his/herself in court.
Then he stated clearly that if he had not found evidence of crimes for which charges would normally have been brought, he would have said so. In other words, he found evidence of crimes, but refused to make accusations against someone who has no legal framework in which to defend his/herself and potentially clear his/her name of those charges.
Then he stated that it is up to Congress, based on the Constitution, to pursue these matters, since the DOJ guidelines prevented him from doing so.
It’s not all that complicated…. yet people are still saying he didn’t find enough to charge Trump. No. He did find enough, but followed DOJ guidelines about not indicting a sitting president, believed it was wrong to accuse someone who cannot defend his/herself in court, and referred it to Congress as the body mandated to investigate and potentially charge the president with the crimes he discovered.
