1. Impeachment is not some crazy tactic invented by Democrats to bring down a president we don't like. Impeachment is the only remedy provided in the Constitution for Congress to rein in an executive who violates his oath to see that our laws are faithfully executed.
2. Lots of folks don't want us to impeach because it will "fire up Trump's base." Trump's base is between 37 and 45 percent of the voting public. They've been fired up within an 8 point range since he took office. They're already fired up.
3. Everyone points out that impeachment backfired on the Republicans in 1999. Yeah, it backfired so badly that ...Republican George W. Bush became the next president against the "incumbent" despite a booming economy, and the Republicans won both houses of Congress.
4. Not everyone has had a chance to read the Mueller Report yet. but everyone I've seen who has read it came away completely convinced that we have no choice: impeach.
5. Trump is running a criminal operation in the WH. The crimes continue every day. How much damage can he do between now and January 2021? I posit that the very act of impeaching might force him to slow down his criminal activity. Certainly, "moving on" will only encourage him.
6. I agree with Nancy Pelosi that "he's not worth it." But restoring the rule of law to the highest office in America IS worth it. She told us to "make her do it." I'm for that.
7. The Republicans are warning and advising us against impeachment. Telling us not to "overreach." The minute the Republicans give Democrats good or valuable advice is the minute I become a human pork chop and take to the sky.
I know there are sound arguments on the other side. Feel free to change my mind!
The main argument against impeachment: Republicans used it improperly against Bill Clinton in 1999, therefore Democrats must not use it properly against the most criminal president* ever to enter the White House.
The secondary argument is that impeaching Trump will give him a second term. I don't believe it, because he's guiltier than any sin, but even if that's so, ignoring this level of lawlessness in the White House would have repercussions that could be worse than a second Trump term. As unthinkable as that is.
