Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it
That quote by philosopher George Santayana, has never been more relevant than it is today, and after traveling to Amsterdam this past week, and visiting the Dutch Resistance Museum, and the Anne Frank House, it's difficult not to see the parallels to what's going on in the US right now, with Donald Trump and the Republican Party, and what happened during the 1930's, and the rise of Adolf Hitler.
It's getting very scary, and we the people (Democrats, progressives, conservatives, sensible people from any ranks, etc.) don't seem to be helping the situation any. Instead of trying to work through our differences, all we seem to be doing is creating greater divides between ourselves, making stupid comments, and condemning each other over petty little differences, and actions, that amount to very little in the scheme of things.
It has to stop! If we don't start acting in a unified manner, to defeat the wave of division, hatred, and bigotry, you will certainly see a repeat of history.
Let's not forget, Donald Trump already has a list of thousands of immigrants registered through the DACA program, and he will likely get many more when the citizenship question is placed in the 2020 census, should immigrants answer truthfully or not answer at all.
Right now it's only immigrants who are targets of Donald Trump's wrath, but once he accomplishes his goal of eliminating all immigrants, what's to stop him from targeting US citizens he doesn't like?
Still don't think it can happen here? Think harder!
Lest we forget, pre WWII Germany had a constitution, and Hitler was democratically elected, but that didn't stop him from creating a dictatorship in a few short years, followed by the near annihilation of the Jewish people, many of whom were citizens of Germany.
