I read an op-ed yesterday that lead me deeper into the author’s writing. It was an article by a fellow named Kurt Bardella on the staggering damage caused by Sarah Sanders in her time in the press secretary position. It was a fine article, roasting her on a spit for how she conducted her ‘business,’ as, indeed, she richly deserves.
So I wanted to read more, and found an article he had written in December, last year, about his first year as a Democrat!
Really!
That’s got to be a good news story, right?!
Well, less so than I hoped.
More below.

I like what he wrote, but the insights I hoped for eluded even him, it seems. Why the extreme differences?
Like this.
Shocking as it may be to learn, Republicans do not sit around and talk about the environment. As a Democrat, I feel like this topic is a consistent focal point of social conversations. In fact, I’ve found the same thing to be true about gun-law reform, racial inequality, social injustice and sexism. As a Republican, I just never talked about these things, but as a Democrat, I talk about them all the time.
Excellent, Mr. Bardella! But, why???
Then, next ..
I’ll tell you, being a Democrat is a heck of a lot more emotionally exhausting than being a Republican was, because I care about a lot more things than I used to. There must be some wisdom in the old saying that “ignorance is bliss.” It’s funny, because I remember as a Republican, we would often mock “bleeding-heart liberals” who are always “caring” so much. I think to myself now, what the hell is wrong with these Republicans who don’t seem to care about anything at all?
So, you were one of them for a gazillion years, and now you don’t know why they are that way? How they can be that way? Hmm.
To his credit, his last phase (two years) in that party were difficult.
I guess on some level, I had hoped that the cancer that is Trumpism would be isolated to a smaller segment of the Republican Party. Instead, it spread to infect the entire GOP with so-called “leaders” like House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell becoming the biggest enablers and defenders of Trump’s unique brand of toxicity.
(Yes, and don’t forget Lindsey Graham, whose deceased BFF has been stabbed in the back by Trump many times over, yes, even AFTER his death.)
Please go back and revisit your evolution, Mr. Bardella. We’re glad that you made the change, we hope you can help others make it, but it would potentially help many more if you could articulate how and why they are like that. How to get through it, to reach them for genuine dialogue. They’re our neighbors and acquaintances, too, and we could use a better bridge.
(In fairness to Mr. Bardella, he did talk at some length about his ‘relationship’ with racism, while himself being a member of a minority. But otherwise, not the ‘droids’ I was looking for.)

Nominating this comment by Hey BB because this needs to be a centerpiece of our platform for 2020 — whoever the nominee ends up being. From Laura Clawson’s Congress makes minimum wage history, going the longest without an increase since 1938.

This comment by DrDiva wins the internet. From Laura Clawson’s Trump's promise to release 'phenomenal' healthcare plan has Republicans nervous.
