ABOUT 20 MI...30 KM ENE OF GREAT ABACO ISLAND
ABOUT 205 MI...330 KM E OF WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...180 MPH...285 KM/H
PRESENT MOVEMENT...W OR 270 DEGREES AT 7 MPH...11 KM/H
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...913 MB...26.96 INCHES
Small but exceptionally intense, the hurricane has begun its forecasted slowdown as it moves around the periphery of a high pressure system. Interaction with the Bahamas today and tonight will cause the storm to weaken somewhat, and the hurricane will also continue to slow down and then slowly pivot to the northwest and north.
Hurricane watches have been issued for Florida from Deerfield Beach to the Volusia/Brevard County line.
Most model guidance keeps the core of the hurricane just offshore of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas---as of now, but the hurricane may linger just east of Florida until Wednesday morning. The hurricane is expected to weaken some by Wednesday, but its windfield will spread out. A prolonged period of heavy rain and high wind is possible and any deviations in track will bring the most intense weather ashore.

Tracking storms in today’s age is not what it used to be. I can zoom in, using Snapchat, to many locations in the Abacos and see there are people not quite hunkered down, as recently as a half-hour ago. In places like Marsh Harbour that’s pretty bad.
