Demands of the impeachment inquiry to make it a success in making the case to the public that the president is illegitimate to serve, to maximize the chances of conviction in the Senate, and to save the country:
- Cancel recess and begin public impeachment hearings now.
- Co-sponsor and pass H.Res.257 or H.Res.396 to formalize the inquiry as Congress’s top priority.
- Keep the Judiciary Committee at the center of the process, per its traditional jurisdiction. Other committees can report their findings to Judiciary.
- Hold frequent public hearings that make a prosecutorial case to the public in a persuasive, organized fashion.
- Pursue articles of impeachment on the full range of offenses, not limited to Mueller’s findings and the Ukraine scandal, to address what’s wrong in America.*
- Don’t hesitate to use inherent contempt power to compel compliance with the inquiry.
- Take swift unilateral action on the House’s own authority, without waiting for all responses from the judiciary or from the administration. We already know enough for dozens of articles of impeachment.
- Vote articles of impeachment out of Judiciary by November 1st and hold House floor votes on articles by November 15th of this year (i.e., complete the process before Thanksgiving). Every day that this administration continues further damages the people of this country and the world.
- Also impeach Attorney General Barr, Vice President Pence, Justice Kavanaugh, and other corrupt judges and executive branch officials.
These demands incorporate those made by By the People, Free Speech for People, Indivisible, CREDO Action, and other organizations, with some changes and additions.
