Hey, everyone. I had to abandon my nightly COVID-19 summary diaries a few weeks back due to time constraints (I promised my wife I’d cut back on my data analysis time in the evenings).
However, I’ve still been tracking the numbers daily, and working on what you see above (click here for a much higher resolution version): Every (official) case of COVID-19 across all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico from 3/20/20 — 6/03/20 on a per capita basis (cases per 1,000 residents), which is a much more accurate way of comparing the spread than the raw numbers.
When I say “official”, that means that these are the numbers being reported by the state health departments. I know there’s been a lot of evidence of some states (Florida and Georgia especially) covering up COVID-19 deaths; if so, those aren’t reflected here, although they may be in the future.
UPDATE: There seems to be some confusion about the vertical axis; it included 3 decimal points (up to 20.000) which made people think it read 20,000 per thousand, which is obviously nonsense. I’ve cut it down to 1 decimal point. However, I strongly urge you to view the high res version I linked to above since it’s still difficult to read at this size.
I’m actually tracking the data daily at the county level as well, which is a much larger project; I’ll have some findings on that in the next few days.
