In WAYR?, I note what I’m reading and comment...you note what you are reading and comment. Occasionally, I may add a section or a link related to books…
"You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance..."
I am reading:
Rod Serling: His Life, Work, and Imagination by Nicholas Parisi- I have now entered...The Twilight Zone period...and just prior to that, there is...”The Time Element”...which is sometimes referred to as the first episode of The Twilight Zone.
Desi Arnaz’s support for “The Time Element” makes him one of the unsung heroes in The Twilight Zone’s history. Lucie Arnaz (the daughter of Arnaz and Lucille Ball) recalled that The Twilight Zone became one of her father’s (and her own) favorite shows, although she had no knowledge of his connection to the series until years later. “I watched it religiously,” she said. “I watched every rerun—I became like a fanatic about it. After my parents divorced I spent weekends and summers at my dad’s— he watched it with me a million times. He never once said ‘Hey, you know if it wasn’t for me...’ He never took credit.
Can a man fight with (against or alongside) monsters without becoming a monster? Can a man be surrounded by darkness without this darkness infecting him? No less than a dozen of Serling’s scripts deal with these questions. That the answer might be in the negative was one of his greatest fears.
I also ran across mention of the following episode of The Twilight Zone which seems...timely. (It’s also an episode that I’ve never seen!)
The mention at ~2:51 of the clip that “...at 2 o’clock this afternoon, a dark cloud appeared over the streets of Dallas, Texas is (needless to say, I think) not a coincidence.
This has become my favorite read of the year, now. It has become difficult to put the book down.
The Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafon- I only read a few more pages of this and:
a) The Prisoner of Heaven is much faster paced than either of the two previous books in “The Cemetery of Forgotten Books” series, The Angel’s Game and (what I remember) of The Shadow of the Wind.
b) Another thing that I remember from my reading of The Shadow of the Wind years ago: Fermín Romero de Torres is a hot crispy mess, lol.
