I need a trans-culturalist.
I have tried to follow why everyone is upset that prince Harry and Princess Megan have said that they don’t want to be forced to live lives as “Senior Royal” family members. This means, as I understand it, that they won’t be available for interviews, they won’t take taxpayer money, they might get jobs, and they are thinking of buying a house in Canada and spending time there.
This appears to have united the country in horror. There’s about a billion articles regarding how this is a betrayal.
Can someone explain to me why this is a big deal? I’m not trying to be daft, here, but the idea that rich, second-son and new wife might want to leave hometown and settle somewhere where they have more privacy and get jobs seems….like not that big of a deal.
Am I missing something? Is there some religious thing I’ve missed? I mean, I don’t really understand Brexit, but Brexit seems like a big deal. I don’t really understand the Scottish parliament and its independence, but that seems like a big deal. Man and woman deciding to move to Canada and get jobs to avoid nasty press seems like….not a big deal.
What am I missing? Can anyone help?
