So my very red senator sent me a form letter defending their decision not to break ranks, and to stand by 45, and I was compelled to take issue with their talking points. I just could not allow them to think I was really as ignorant as their supporters. Here is my response…
Dear Senator,
I have received your e-mail regarding the impeachment proceedings and am compelled to respond. You wrote...
"Since the president was elected, we have had investigation after investigation, and nothing to show."
With all due respect, ma'am, 34 indictments, including his first pick for National Security Advisor just weeks into his term, his attorneys and a number of his campaign staff doesn't equal "nothing to show". The only reason Mueller didn't indict Trump, which he stated clearly, was that he did not have the power to do so.

"By delaying the process, Speaker Pelosi confirmed that this impeachment is nothing more than a partisan political exercise."
No, by delaying the process Madame Speaker has demonstrated that she knows that we have seen only the tip of the iceberg. Additional evidence is coming to light almost on a daily basis.

"The impeachment trial of President Trump should be conducted under the same procedures that the Senate adopted 100-0 for President Clinton's impeachment trial in 1999."
That may be well and true, but to conflate the trial in 1999 with the present proceedings does a great injustice. The former pertained to lying about a tryst and the latter pertains to outright treason. Moreover, had this president been held to the same personal standards as WJC, he never would have been elected. And as for lying about their sexual exploits, this president has done it publicly 100 times to each time Clinton did it, the only difference being that the latter was under oath. Can you imagine this president taking a legal oath to speak the truth?
Let's face it. Your president isn't even being held accountable for his worst transgressions, which are treasonous in the least. Ask the Kurds. In Syria, Ukraine and Lebanon to name just a few, this president has acted against the best interests of America and in the best interests of our sworn enemy, Vladimir Putin. You cannot possibly be so uninformed that you do not realize it.
Regardless of what happens with the impeachment, and even with the election in November, history will not be kind to this president. And it will take America two generations to recover from the selfishness and racism that he has made a part of American culture.
As your responsibility comes to the forefront, perhaps you should start thinking about your own legacy. History will neither be kind to the sycophants that should have known better than to stand with this president for whatever reason that they chose.
Respectfully,
Your constituent
I do not expect a response. We both know there is nothing they can say to defend themselves.
